A New Defining Moment and Bold Transformation for Maillardville
As the new gateway to Maillardville Neighbourhood Centre, Mackin Parkside will energize the neighbourhood with a public plaza, more shops, services, and pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly realms.
An Elevated Gathering Place for the Community of Maillardville
Maillardville’s rich French-Canadian history dates back to 1909, and is now the largest French-speaking neighbourhood west of Winnipeg. Mackin Parkside will introduce a modern interpretation of French-inspired architecture and placemaking, enhancing the neighbourhood’s appeal as one of Coquitlam’s premier destinations to live, work, and play. The project will also pay tribute to the community’s unique cultural heritage through design and public art.
The Mackin Parkside mixed-use master plan is located at 1026 Brunette Avenue and 100 Nelson Street, Coquitlam, BC and will comprise of:
- 6 Buildings across 3 phases:
- A Metro Vancouver Housing non-market rental building
- A 31-storey market rental tower
- Four 25 to 31-storey strata market towers
- Approximately 1,400 homes, including strata market, market rentals, and the significant expansion and relocation of the existing Metro Vancouver Housing ‘Park Court’ building
- Public realm improvements and road dedications, including new commercial frontage, childcare facility, realigned Nelson Street intersection, improved cycling facilities, streamside protection and enhancements to Nelson Creek, and a potential sewer heat recovery-based district system
- Additional street parking above and beyond the current street parking available
Parkside Homes for Modern Day Families
“Home” in Metro Vancouver looks a little different these days. Our project will include various housing options for the modern day family, from adaptable units to rental homes, and studio condos to family-oriented three-bedroom apartments and townhomes.
In addition to market strata and rentals, 100 non-market rental homes will be constructed to replace Metro Vancouver Housing’s existing 30-unit ‘Park Court’ building. Without displacing residents during construction, it will be rebuilt and more than tripled in units to a new building owned and operated by Metro Vancouver Housing on the south portion of the site, overlooking Mackin Park.
Social Hubs for the Community
The extension of Adair Avenue will link Maillardville neighbourhood centre to Mackin Park in a way which has not existed since the late 1940s. Providing pedestrian connectivity and a place where people can come together, “The Square on Adair” is envisioned to host farmers markets, friendly games of street hockey or bocce, and function as an extension of the park for special events like Festival du Bois.
Realigning the Brunette Avenue and Nelson Street intersections will also make way for a public plaza, or “Parkette of Brunette,” with mass timber seating, a micro-mobility hub for quick bike tune-ups, a restaurant terrace, and an outdoor cafe plaza. These social hubs will serve as new prominent entrances to Mackin Park, where families can linger and enjoy refreshments after an exciting ball game or time spent at the playground.
